I love Chicago. If I thought I could handle the winters they face there, I would seriously be tempted to trek up north. However since there is a reason I live in the South, I will settle for visiting as often as possible.
It’s not very often I get to have companions on my trips, but when I do the company is wonderful. One of my best friends, Kassi, and I were catching up over dinner in February when I mentioned an upcoming trip to Chicago in April. We talked about how much fun it would be if she could join me and before we knew it, she bought herself a ticket that night.
Some of y’all might be wondering what I do for work that allows me to travel so much. Well when I’m not writing blog posts, traveling, or stuffing my face, I manage the marketing department for my company. With a broad title comes an even more broad job description – and one of my favorite aspects of my job is event planning.
Every year we hold a national meeting that allows our corporate office to connect with our employees in the field. We go over the previous year results, strategize for next year, and of course spend some time rewarding ourselves for a job well done. And it’s my job to plan all of it and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
This year our location was The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in beautiful Tucson, Arizona.
Happy National Margarita Day! Yes, this is a real holiday (I promise I did not make it up). February 22nd is a day where all margarita lovers can raise their glass and cheers to some tequila either on the rocks or frozen.
There’s nothing I love more than a cold margarita accompanying warm cheese dip or some damn good tacos. And considering I’m probably not the only person with a love for them, I compiled a list of 5 margarita recipes that’ll make you want to break out your cocktail shaker for happy hour.
Hey y’all! I’m Jackie, the blonde on board. I’m a Southern born and bred, Atlanta based twenty-something and a lover of travel, food, and puppies. I bleed black and red for my Georgia Bulldogs (Go Dawgs!) and Falcons. I’m also a dog mom to the cutest little Cockapoo named Wicket that you’ll ever see.
I am a firm believer that you need to create a life you don’t need a vacation from. Life is short and meant to be enjoyed to the fullest – and the two ways I enjoy life most is through travel and food.
My love for travel started young – my Dad was a pilot and had a similar appreciation for travel and culture after numerous years in the Air-force. And after years of going up in his small Cessna plane, he inspired me to get my pilot’s license as part of my bucket list.
“Traveling leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”
He once said to me, “Live your life by a compass, not a clock.” In retrospect, I think he was referring to more of a moral compass, but you get the idea. That’s a motto I’m trying to live my life by – to live the life I’ve always wanted.
Sometimes life is funny how it works out – if someone had told me 5 years ago that I’d be writing a food and travel blog, I’d never believe them. Mostly because even though I loved thrills and adventure, I wasn’t much of a traveler until a few years ago when my work began to require it. My first trip above the Mason Dixon line was in November 2013 and I’ve never looked back since.
“People who love to eat are always the best people.” – Julia Child
My love for food started when my favorite meals included Kraft macaroni and cheese and my Easy Bake Oven brownies. All of my best memories growing up revolved around food, whether they were just another Tuesday night dinner or a holiday meal with all my extended family. So naturally, food is important to me! I try to be healthy but life is short, eat the pizza every once in a while.
The Blonde on Board (occasionally referred to as BOB) is your round trip ticket for travel, good eats, and everything in between all over the world. I’ll post travel tips and tricks, itineraries, my favorite brunch spots, and so much more! Oh, and a lot of pictures of the furry child. Sorry, not sorry.
Stay sassy, well traveled, and well fed, my friends.
